Curtain walls: the light touch for a modern architecture

Transparency, light, sustainability… Modern architecture is currently synonymous with open, bright spaces. And reflecting this trend, curtain walls and their large glass surfaces are becoming increasingly popular. Because they’re much more than a glass surface. They’re a way to transform the aesthetics of a building and its interior comfort.

WHY CURTAIN WALLS?

Curtain walls effectively blur the limit between the indoors and outdoors. They let in natural light, provide panoramic views, create open spaces… The perfect trifecta. Plus, they reduce the need for artificial lighting and improve the well-being of the building’s occupants.
And thanks to solar control glass, advanced double and triple glazing, and thermal break frames, these façades are the very embodiment of high performance and energy efficiency. Some systems even offer natural airflow solutions, automated sun protection, and double-skin façades. The result: thermal comfort, optimized acoustics, and green certifications (LEED, BREEAM, HQE).

THE VERY ESSENCE OF STYLE

Curtain walls are synonymous with modernity and innovation. Their transparency facilitates open-concept designs and floods the interior with natural light, resulting in structures at the forefront of global design trends. A real asset for any company or institution.

A FEW INSPIRING EXAMPLES

At Epsylon, we’ve had the opportunity to work on several of Quebec’s most prominent projects, including:

  • Reception Pavilion of the Québec National Assembly
  • Complexe Jules-Dallaire
  • Entrance Hall of the Centre Vidéotron
  • Deloitte Tower and National Bank Tower

Here are a few international projects that inspire us:

  • Apple Park Visitor Center in Cupertino: a glass pavilion under a roof that seems to float above the ground.
  • Hearst Tower in NYC: a diagonal curtain wall that redefines the building’s profile.
  • Bank of China Tower in Hong Kong: a timeless, emblematic design.

A curtain wall represents nearly endless possibilities for architects. It combines aesthetics, energy efficiency, and comfort. It’s more than a trend. It’s its own architectural language that meets the need for open spaces and sustainability.

At Epsylon, we share this vision and are fully devoted to pushing the boundaries of design while creating façades that leave a lasting impression.
